The Big Walk is the hiking branch of Hit The Road Madeira — a trusted adventure company sharing the island’s secrets since 2012.
We’ve been guiding walks across Madeira since 2014, exploring everything from volcanic summits to hidden forest trails. Every hike we lead has been carefully chosen for its scenery, story, and sense of adventure.

Our hikes range from moderate to challenging. Each tour page includes the fitness level required. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll recommend the best fit.
What should I pack for my hike?
Comfortable hiking shoes, layered clothing, a small backpack, water, and a snack.
After you book, we’ll send you a quick checklist so you’re perfectly prepared.
How many people are in each group?
We keep our groups small for a more personal experience — usually fewer than eight hikers per guide.
Are transfers included?
Yes. Most hikes include hotel pickup or a designated meeting point in the Funchal area. Details are listed on each tour page.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Your safety comes first. If the weather turns, we’ll reschedule, reroute, or refund your booking — always ensuring you have a great experience.
